Possessor - The Ripper

When The Ripper slammed into the scene in late 2017, London’s Possessor sharpened all their edges and delivered more than just another record—it was a raw, blistering collision of thrash, sludge, doom, and boogie swagger. Right from Conjure and Possess, you know this is a band unleashed, riffing with ferocity, wild energy, and vocals that drag you in and don’t let go.

Each song packs a punch: Guillotine carries momentum; Wet Cemetery twists melody through its distortion; The Slime sneaks in grooves you’ll hum later; Whitechapel Murders evokes murky tales of horror—heavy, thrashy, unflinching. And then there are tracks like Lava and Earth Shaker, which show the band stretching out—letting riffs breathe, dynamics swell, delivering instrumental power as devastating as the full-on assaults.

Production-wise, The Ripper isn’t polished, and it doesn’t want to be. The guitars are thick, the drums brutal, the vocals ravaged with grit––all of which helps it hit hard without losing authenticity. It’s loud, but every layer is textured so you feel the weight, the flaws, the rawness.

What makes The Ripper stand out isn’t just the heaviness, though—it’s the confidence, the attitude, and the songwriting. Possessor don’t lean on one style alone; they move through thrash-metal riffing, stoner rock moments, doom-laden grooves, even spiky bits that feel punkish. The result is an album that doesn’t just punish—it also thrills, drags you into its darkness, and leaves you wanting more.

The Ripper is a statement: loud, dangerous, and unforgettable. It shows Possessor at a high-point—raw, sharper than ever, and with a vision of what heavy music can still be.
