BongCauldron - Tyke

Bong Cauldron - Tyke Cover

In October 2018, BongCauldron dropped Tyke, an EP that felt like both a send-off and a return to their roots. With only three tracks and just under fourteen minutes, it strips things back and grips hard — melancholic, bruising, raw.

Opening with Pisshead on the Moon, the trio unwinds into heavier, more atmospheric territory: slow riffs drenched in distortion, vocals that drag the listener through darkness, but with enough melody in the undercurrent to make the weight meaningful. Back Up Bog Roll comes next, short, sharp, snide — a blink-and-you’ll-miss-it burst of aggression that contrasts the slower drama around it. The EP closes with Jezus Throat Horns, a track that builds, snarls, and erupts; its frenetic energy feels like a final declaration, a last howl before the silence.

The recording is rough with character: BongCauldron decided not to polish everything down. Ross Halden recorded and mixed Tyke, Tom Woodhead mastered it, and that raw texture is part of what gives the EP its punch. Released in a limited cardsleeve CD run of just a hundred copies, Tyke is small in scale but huge in intention.

For BongCauldron, Tyke served as the perfect “Thank you, fuck you, bye”—a swansong from a band that always carried swagger, groove and sludge in equal measure. Even after they stopped playing, Tyke ensures their echo still breaks your speakers.
